10 Principles for having a Positive Attitude

Attitude determines how far you can go on the success journey!

Ownership
Until you do not own the responsibility that you have for your attitude you will be at the mercy of circumstances, people and even fate!
“10 % of life is what happens to us and 90% how we react to it!”
No matter what happens to you, you have the power to decide what your attitude is going to be.

Action
Think about the things that you are currently tolerating? Maybe it is the way that someone speaks to you, that you don’t like. These are the small foxes geared towards the destruction of the vineyard! Little irritations and frustrations build up and eventually find their way out in our attitudes towards others, situations and things. Your attitude can be made known without even uttering a word, because attitude is expressed by our body language, the looks on our faces, a roll of the eye, those well-placed sighs! Things that are left to fester will inevitably infect your attitude and our relationships. Make a concerted effort to start eliminating the things that bother you.
“Rotten attitudes, left alone, ruin everything” John Maxwell

Enjoy the present
You cannot change the past and you cannot predict the future. You can however live to fullest in the day that you have. No doubt that your past does have an influence on your attitude, but it is over and done with. No amount of crying or mourning will change the past; it will only change you and your future! Make a quality choice to deal with the past. Work through your brokenness, learn from your choices and then let it be. We all have to dream, but we can get so lost in dreaming about all we are going to be and all that we want to achieve that we lose the time to actually DO it. Take hold of your dream and learn to use each moment you have to constructively build on that dream, so that it might become your future.

Let GO!
If there is one thing that us women can do very well it is stock up on the wrongdoings and injustices of other people. If you spend so much time pondering over negative and dark unpleasant things, your outlook and frame of mind will eventually become infected by it. Make a choice to think about the positives in life and let the bad things go! We are wasting so much energy on things that really do not impact our lives positively. Make a pack with yourself – if it does not build or add value – TOSS IT!

Don’t Judge
Letting go and judgement goes hand in hand. Try to understand and listen before you make conclusions or criticise. Again, let it go… it is not our place to be judge and jury over other’s lives. We have enough responsibility living our own lives to the fullest. There is a very appropriate saying: “People in glass houses should not throw stones”. We are all fragile, we all have our weaknesses – if you sow judgement, you will reap it for sure with a vengeance. Make the choice to sow seeds that add value and meaning!

Focus on strengths
You cannot change an outward action, without changing an inward feeling. We all want to be winners – it is the heart’s desire of every single person. Having a good self-image will affect how others see you. Stack up some wins and successes under your belt and GO FOR IT!!! You need to change your self-talk from negative and criticising to supportive and positive encouragement! How you see yourself will determine how others see you! Get your self-image strong enough so that you will have the permission to reach for the stars!

Live your Values
When we live according to our values, we develop an attitude of true acceptance of who we are. Our values lay the foundation for who we are, where we go, and how we will get there. They set our boundaries/parameters for making choices in every area of our lives. Values allows us to be authentic and truthful, which in turn is liberating, because when we are true to ourselves, the opinions of others will not force us to change.

Fun & Humour
Joy is our fuel! If we have no joy, we have little reserve to go out there and battle the forces of life! Joylessness makes us weary! Build your joy by creating fun experiences for yourself. Take delight in life. Choose to see the lighter side of things!

Invest
We were not created to live in isolation. What is the point of having an excellent attitude when there is no-one there to share success and joy with?! Invest your energy in the people you love and care about. It is not so much about what you achieve, it is about who will be next to you to celebrate your achievement with you! True wealth is not about money it is about meaningful relationships – and they can only be developed and sustained by a positive attitude and commitment.
“We make a living by what we get; but we make a life by what we give”

An Attitude of Love
“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”
Show others how much you care! Take the time to do things that will positively impact someone else.

  • Take some time out for yourself.
  • Make an effort to discover exactly what it is that you were put on this earth to do!
  • Get a clear understanding of what values you would like to live by and start living by them!
  • Get your joy back by being true to yourself, your beliefs, your values and your dreams!
